In /etc/make.conf what is DISTCC_DIR set to (if anything) and what is PORTAGE_TMPDIR set to (if anything)? I guess this is the problem, in that DISTCC_DIR=/usr/src which is outside of the sandbox. So, I've disabled sandbox now. You can close this, if this is the actual problem. But it'd be useful to know what DISTCC_DIR should be set to, to make it sandbox aware. Thanks.
