The non-comment part of my /etc/conf.d/net is as follows:
iface_eth0="192.168.0.3 broadcast 192.168.0.255 netmask 255.255.255.0 mtu 1492"
gateway="eth0/192.168.0.1"


If I boot and then do ifconfig eth0 I get
MTU 1500 reported.  I would expect (and used to get) MTU 1492 reported.

I am sorry to be vague as to when this behaviour first changed. Sometime after mid-April 2006.Whatever baselayout version was stable at that time was OK. 
1.12.4-r6 definitely ignores the mtu value given.

The workaround is to use the new syntax as shown in /etc/conf.d/net.example.
I file the bug mostly to document the behaviour.

Please attach your full conf.d/net as I cannot replicate this.
