Description Christian Affolter 2006-08-10 07:12:14 UTC
Attached you'll find a patch against the gentoo-sources 2.6.17-r4 (linux-2.6.17-gentoo-r4), which provides support for the areca ARC-11xx Series (4/8/12/16-port PCI-X to SATA ll RAID Controllers)
http://www.areca.com.tw/support/index/dc1120.htm

The patch includes the latest areca drivers from:
ftp://ftp.areca.com.tw/RaidCards/AP_Drivers/Linux/DRIVER/SourceCode/arcmsr.1.20.0X.13.zip

It would be very nice if you could include this patch into the gentoo-sources.
If you need a patch against another kernel-source version/tree than gentoo-sources 2.6.17-r4, just let me know!

many thanks!

Such stuff needs to go upstream. See http://dev.gentoo.org/~dsd/genpatches/ on our patching policy.
Comment 3 Tiziano Müller (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-08-10 07:19:22 UTC
... and it will be included in kernel 2.6.18 anyway as far as I know. So it doesn't make sense to include it in the kernel patches.
But I would rather like to see an ebuild for the areca lib with a working cli :-)

Sorry, I was wrong. Inclusion seems to be planned for v2.6.19.
But a newer version of the driver is included in the mm-sources.

Sorry, we won't consider this until it appears in Linus' git tree. Even then I won't make any promises, it doesn't look very easy to maintain and my time will be short over the next few weeks... Best way is just to wait for it to be shipped by Linus then it's no effort on our part :)
