I've composed a guide to prepare Gentoo for VDR. It needs some proofreading and might be improved (extensions to the VDR chapter).

You should make a diff; if you want your new email-adres in the guide.

zzam (the vdr/lirc maintainer) has read the guide and made a diff with his comments. Also i updated the coding style.

I would like someone to overread it, checking it on grammar/spelling since i'm not a native writer.

Just grammar/spell checked it for you lot, looks fine to me :) haven't tested it though, seeing as I don't have a TV card :/
