With the new baselayout (still in ~KEYWORD, but less buggy for me than the stable one), /etc/init.d/domainname has disappeared, letting /etc/conf.d/net doing this kind of configuration. /etc/init.d/{ypbind,ypserv} (package net-nds/ypserv-2.19, latest version available in portage) still have a "use" dependency on this old service: # grep domainname /etc/init.d/* ypbind: use ypserv domainname ypserv: use domainname In http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?p=3489869#3489869 , Uberlord asked me to report this as a bug. Done :) Fred.
