Description C Morrison 2006-08-01 11:36:19 UTC
I've had countless problems trying to install 2006.0 on my Presario 2199US.
Doing it from the command line (verbatim) randomly shuts off the machine when extracting portage, even with acpi OFF. So I decided to use the graphical installer (not really decided as much as I was forced to), and picked the most basic options, read EVERY help file for every page of the graphical install, walking on eggshells if you will, and installed from GRP/dynamic, w/ only GRP packages, just to play it safe. I just want to get it running, being as I've spent about 7 hours trying everything I can think of. (P.S. Tried CLI front-end, that crashed too but w/o "letting me know" the error).

Here's my emerge --info:

If you can't install "by hand", what makes you think the installer will work any better? It shoulds like you've got some hardware issues. Try running memtest86 from the LiveCD overnight. When you are absolutely positive that it's not hardware, feel free to reopen.

I would also suggest a larger /boot partition.. perhaps you ran out of disk space on it?
