Uhm, more likely you've run out of RAM... Can you reproduce it, i.e. does it fail at *exactly* the same place again? I don't think this is the issue - it does indeed fail at exactly the same place everytime. The machine has 512 MB of RAM with an additional 512 MB swap. Shouldn't that be enough to compile OO? Richard Fish from the gentoo-user mailing list suggested trying less aggressive CFLAGS, and also pointed out that my CHOST is set to 386 instead of 686. I will try the less aggressive USE flags as soon as the current attempt to build it again finishes (most likely in failure :() Thanks! Well, your compiler gets killed. That has nothing in common w/ gtk USE flag really. Try w/ more swap. Using less aggressive CFLAGS seems to have fixed the problem. I used CFLAGS="-O2 -march=pentium3 -pipe" sudo emerge openoffice.
