Description Neil Bothwick 2006-07-28 06:22:16 UTC
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/kde-config.xml states
"You can also have your devices automatically mounted without interaction, you just need to install ivman and add it to the default runlevel."
This is no longer true. Since at least KDE 3.4, emerging it with the hal USE flag provides for similar functionality. With KDE 3.5, the internal system provides more control than ivman.

I suggest that this section of the document be replaced with something along the lines of

"You can have your removable devices recognised automatically, with the option to automatically mount or run them, by ensuring the hal USE flag is set before emerging KDE."

Have you tried it with IVMAN? there should be a difference in the way of mounting..

anyways; i'm currently writing a guide for automaticly mounting devices and i've included ivman. Feel free to take a look at bug http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=111551 => i'm finalising it as we speak.

just looked it up; with ivman the interaction with your desktop environment is away. witch can be quiet nice. (/doc/en/kde-config#kde_device_mounting)

I guess we should just link to the "external storage howto" when it gets finished and published. Opinions?
Comment 4 nm (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-10-31 13:14:15 UTC
Removed ivman instructions in favor of kde's built-in functionality. Less is more.

Thanks for reporting, fixed in CVS.
