Description Malte S. Stretz 2006-07-26 02:13:37 UTC
The change from bug 125782 should be changed in a way that all plugins are built per default. Maybe except some more esoteric ones which need external libs, like Gadu or Jasper. But I was pretty pissed when I just noticed that I didn't have the history plugin anymore and I rely much on IM history to catch telephone numbers etc.

Do you have any suggestion how to achieve it? Changing flags to no* is no-go, there's no default useflags on per-package basis and putting a load of local useflags in profiles is not feasible.

Also most of the users seems to be just fine with almost no plugin, so really this is a selection problem, you might want them on by default, others want them off by default... you see the useflags during emerge and tune them how you need.

Nope, I have no idea how to change it, I'm just a user, that's your job :)

Seriously, the current behaviour is extremely unexpected. When I install Kopete, I expect to get a version like the origninal one from upstream; especially when I upgrade I don't expect to have some plugins disappearing just because I didn't check the use flags before. (Is it possible that you added the history use flag and some others after in -r1 or something? I ask because I had some flags set already (after I noticed that my IRC contacts were suddenly gone) and either I missed some or they were changed later.)

Whatever, thats probably debatable. But IMO the history plugin is one of the essential features, almost everybody I know relies on his history to catch some data he was sent for later clean up. So if noxx is not the way to go, then IMO at least for the history plugin it should not be possible to disable it (I doubt that its so much more overhead to build it for everybody). The other plugins are just fancy stuff, but I'm talking about data loss here. (In this case I was so pissed because somebody sent me his telephone number and I said "hey, I call you later"... later: "oops, where's the damn number?")
