i ran into this when attempting to install postgresql while still running from the stage1 cd. the ant build fails with a hotspot VM error but the package is installed anyway without ant.jar. this causes a classnotfoundexception to occur when the postgresql install tries to configure itself. what fixed it for me was to go through a basic stage 3 install, boot to the real system, and then install postgresql. in any case, bugs should be filed for ant's "kinda-install" and the livecd's inability to consistently run java. however, i'm happy enough with the workaround that i don't feel the urge to track them down. I had this problem with postgresql 7.2 and ended up just downloading the precompiled JDBC drivers. I'm now trying to emerge 7.3.2 and having the same problem. Does the java USE flag just compile the JDBC drivers or is there something else? I just had this happen to me, I think it is from updating your JDK, but not logging out and back in again. To fix it for Postgresql 7.3.3 I changed my java-vm to from sun-jdk-1.4.1.02 to sun-jdk-1.4.1.03, ran etc-update, logged out, and then back in, and postgresql is compiling right now. |
