I did this by emerging blackdown-jdk-1.4.1. The 1.3.1-version doesn't work well with Mozilla. I've mailed my updates to gentoo-docs-review, so I hope the docs team takes it from here. Karl's mail: """ I suggest we add a new section 3, before "Additional resources". " 3. Browser plugins If you install any of the commercial JDKs or JREs (Blackdown, Sun or IBM), the Netscape/Mozilla browser plugin will be installed for you automatically. Sadly, none of the open source Java implementations are sufficiently stable to be used as plugins at this point. You will most likely have to explicitly enable Java support in Konqueror. We have not tested the plugins with Opera. <advanced> When you install multiple JDK/JREs, the first one installed will provide the plugin. If this is not to your liking, you can manually symlink the desired plugin .so file (typically named javaplugin_oji.so) to /usr/lib/nsbrowser/plugins/. Look at the existing symlink for guidance. </advanced> " """ This only for correct information flow Bah, I have java installed (blackdown) and the plugin works flawlessly with Mozilla. Actually I'm wondering if the javaguide can't be placed inside the desktop guide? This one has been sitting here far too long. I have no problems with the java plugin (meaning I never had to manually symlink anything) so I guess this one is WORKSFORME. Too bad we don't have a "WORKSFORMENOW" :) |
