I'm emerging mozilla-firefox-1.5.0.4 with USE=java. In the ebuild, there's:

RDEPEND="java? ( virtual/jre )

Because of that, sun-jre is installed.

In the same emerge "session", I'm also installing dev-java/sun-jdk-1.5.0.07. But this is installed *after* firefox.

IMO, the installation of sun-jdk should also suffice the dependency on a "virtual/jre". sun-jdk contains a JRE and thus should provide virtual/jre.
