i!

Please find attached smf-1.0.7.ebuild or http://anello-net.de/gentoo/ebuilds/smf/smf-1.0.7.tar.bz2.

Simple Machines Forum - SMF in short - is a free, open source forums software package developed by lewis media ( http://www.lewismedia.com ). SMF is written in PHP and uses a MySQL database. It is released under the Simple Machines Licenes which is supposed to be very similar to GPLv2. See also http://www.simplemachines.org/about/license.php .

I suggest to add it to the category www-apps/smf.

I also created a thread in the forums.

Hmm pretty frustrating!!!

I've just wasted 2-3 hours on learning the structure and creating my first ebuild that else would have took me 10 mins to install and of course the dishonor that all that I've done has been done before.

There definitely needs to be a list of already developed and maintained ebuilds or at least a link to overlay.gentoo.org added at http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/ebuild-submit.xml.

Who do I have to contact to add such links? That other people don't waste their time and really look into all places and not just bugzilla.

Antonino, it can seem to be frustrating, or feel like a waste of time - but you *did* learn the structure and created your first ebuild - so you did learn something, and that is a bonus :) And thank you for the suggestion about adding the overlays page to that url - definitely something we should do. Just remember that in the future, should you find something else that you would like to install and can't find an ebuild for, with the knowledge you have gained, you can write one easier :)

FYI, we are working on eix support for non-added overlays in a separate bug report. Not yet finished but should be most interesting then :)
Bugzilla Bug 144200
eix tools should allow performing search in both local and remote overlays

Thanks for the information. Sounds like an interesting feature, but isn't layman supposed to deliver such infos as I figured from the overlay announcement? http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/overlays/userguide.xml
