Description Peter Bienstman (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-07-10 05:42:41 UTC
We are running a vanilla 2.4.27 openmosix kernel. Decompressing and running the kernel image goes very smoothly, but as soon as the init scripts start running, the machine crawls to a halt and takes several hours to complete the init process.

My guess is that this has something to do with udev. A recent baselayout upgrade barfed on installed udev (saying all udev ebuild were masked), so I uninstalled udev, because I'm running a 2.4 kernel.

Some more info: by placing debug statements in /sbin/rc, I've been able to see that there is several minute delay after printing "INIT 2.86 booting" and actually starting /sbin/rc.

There is also a big delay after "Started device management daemon 1.3.25"

i dont see how udev could have anything to do with it ... udev doesnt work on 2.4 kernels, only devfs does

sounds more like an openmosix issue, but i have no experience with it so i cant really help with the debug here

maybe voxus has an idea
Comment 4 Konstantin Arkhipov (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-08-11 04:20:10 UTC
what oM's patchset you're using?
Comment 5 Peter Bienstman (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-08-22 01:09:55 UTC
It was at that time the latest tab patchset for 2.4.27. However, I can't find it anymore, since his pages are now all about 2.6.

This actually turns out to be caused by http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=132550

Not easy to track down...
