Description Ivan Piazza 2006-07-07 18:23:33 UTC
I'm experiencing problem emerging gcc-4.1.1 from my gentoo just scratched from stage #3.
I got following error:
....
... configure entries...
checking for C compiler default output file name... configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables

and in config.log:
...
configure:2514: checking for C compiler default output file name
configure:2517: gcc -O3 -march=pentium-m -pipe -ftracer -fomit-frame-pointer -ffast-math
  conftest.c >&5
gcc: installation problem, cannot exec `as': No such file or directory
configure:2520: $? = 2
....

#### Here my emerge --info###

looks like your installation of binutils is corrupt / missing

do you have "binutils" installed ? if so, what does `binutils-config -l` show ?
Comment 2 Ivan Piazza 2006-07-08 08:10:22 UTC
thanks spanKY! It seems compiling now. I emerged binutils again and now gcc-4.1.1's still compiling...
