Description Jon Hood (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-07-06 15:41:38 UTC
Please mark app-text/gnomesword-2.1.7 stable on ppc and x86 to resolve issues in the current stable version.
Comment 1 Mark Kowarsky (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-07-06 23:56:31 UTC
It emerged correctly on x86, but whenever it is run, it dies with the error dialog stating: "The Application "gnomesword2" has quit unexpectedly.
You can inform the developers of what happened to help them fix it. Or you can restart the application right now." Restarting only causes the error dialog to appear again.

Removing arches to see what's going on. Mark, could you please USE="debug" and let me know if there are any odd messages that show up when trying to start gnomesword?
Comment 3 Mark Kowarsky (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-07-07 05:44:27 UTC
Re-emerged with USE="debug"
"mark@rockley ~ $ gnomesword2

Initiating GNOME session handler

First Run: need to create settings!"

Is the result when run, it then crashes with the same error mentioned in my original comment.
Comment 4 Christian Faulhammer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-07-07 05:51:26 UTC
1) QA Notice: USE Flag 'doc' not in IUSE for app-text/gnomesword-2.1.7
2) sword-modules has wrong checksum for KJV (fixed it myself locally)
3) emerges fine
4) works well under Gnome and KDE
5) translation incomplete but is upstream issue

I did not have that message on my console...did you emerge sword-modules?

I have now emerged sword-modules (also got the digest error on KJV) but that does not fix the issue. Note that I am running this remotely via X forwarding in ssh, so there are no gnome daemons running.
Comment 7 Jon Hood (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-07-07 19:32:57 UTC
Confirmed same problem on another amd64 box. This issue seems to be random. And when you hand-compile and install it, it works just fine. I have tested numerous configuration options and cflags, and the build is seemingly identical by hand and by portage, but I am now getting this issue, too.
Comment 8 Jon Hood (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-07-07 19:34:45 UTC
readding ppc and x86. Please mark this version stable, or remove the stable keywords from gnomesword, as the previous version has serious problems (it doesn't seem to work at all with current stable portage packages). The problem described above seems to only happen on a few machines, but this is a big improvement over it working on no machines.
Comment 9 Lars Weiler (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-07-09 01:12:27 UTC
ppc stable.
Comment 10 Joshua Jackson (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-07-11 22:40:05 UTC
well debug is less then helpful..even with -g -ggdb and splitdebug
0x080f5342 in ?? ()

and that's it..everything it directly depends on was built with debug as well..so I'm calling this as a nixed for x86. As such I'm removing the stable x86 for us for now. We can revisit this at a later date however. I looked and didn't see anything stable depending on this so it should be fine.
