When I login to gnome I will get an error dialog stating that the gnome settings daemon has failed to start.

When trying to start it manually:
# /usr/libexec/gnome-settings-daemon
The program 'gnome-settings-daemon' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 1667 error_code 2 request_code 116 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
   that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
   To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line

The settings daemon fails to start if I have line
    pointer = 1 3 2 4 5 8 9 6 7 10
in /etc/X11/Xmodmap regardless if I'm using "evdev" or "mouse" driver. "evdev" fails every time.

Upstream fix for similar problem

Could you try it with this patch?  It's fix from upstream that went into 2.14.2 for the same symptoms.

Patch solved the problem.

I tested both the "mouse" and the "evdev" drivers. 
Having pointer mappings in the /etc/X11/Xmodmap works also.

Fixed by 2.12.3-r1.  Thanks for testing.
