What versions of cairo is this issue occuring on? Try recompiling cairo (it seems that *might* be a reason, is that one of the png rendering libraries API changed, or, it might be an issue with that version of cairo)
Comment 2 fturtle 2006-07-04 20:45:05 UTC
According to emerge -s it's x11-libs/cairo-1.0.4

Note that it has been rebuilt several times today due to an emerge -e world
Comment 3 Nick Devito 2006-07-04 20:47:16 UTC
What version of libpng?
Comment 4 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-07-05 00:41:31 UTC
Well, your cairo is broken, run revdep-rebuild.
Comment 5 fturtle 2006-07-05 08:17:59 UTC
Revdep-rebuild now shows cairo/pango and several others needing rebuild along with the removal of a useflag: "-sdl" from several apps that have been affected

Am currently running revdep-rebuild to correct problem and will remerge mplayer.
Comment 6 fturtle 2006-07-11 19:38:50 UTC
Finally determined the problem. Related to libpng-1.1.12 and still affecting my system. This is after a clean install with x11r7 (modular-x).

Solution is to add =media-libs/libpng-1.1.12 to package.mask in /etc/portage and rebuild using libpng-1.1.8 that's stable on my system.

I still see this problem even after a clean install that's synched as of 01:10 PDT on 7/10/06.
