I have seen in the changelog that the maintainer has to do more important things than searching for new versions of vym. That's why I'm telling you that.

Well, I don't know how to write ebuilds, but I'm able to install it as following:
download from sourceforge (vym-1.8.0-tar.gz)
/usr/qt/3/bin/qmake (qmake in path is from qt4 => no success, which was the reason why I asked for the ebuild)
make
make install

Many thanks for the report.  vym-1.8.0 is now in the tree, and should appear on your local rsync mirror in about an hour.
