Not sure wtf is going on here but it's definately strange. I'm currently using the stable x11-6.8.2 with nvidia-glx/kernel 1.0.8269 and now getting this message.

Performeed emerge --sync after 1st occurance and continue to get it.

This was after installing kdeartwork with Use=xscreensaver, electric sheep with Use=jasper -opengl per forum suggestion due to nvidia driver.

Related issue:

attempting to restore opengl and revert to x11 nv driver instead of nvidia driver but continue
eselect opengl set opengl

Here's the emerge output showing the blocking files for clarification.

X.org 7.0 was stabilized yesterday.. please read,

Sorry for the confusion. The problem is with Mesa being blocked by x11-6.9 and not x11-6.8.2 as originally titled.

The bug applies to Mesa and is not a duplicate of 138801.

What happens is that attempting to emerge mesa on a stable 6.8.2.8 system is attempting to pull in x11-6.9 even though supposedly hardmasked.

Yet not mask list found in /profiles/package.mask and emerge is not reading /etc/portage/package.mask as it's supposed to according to portage guide.

After blowing distfiles and portage clear (seperate partitions) and synching, I'm still getting the xorg-x11-6.9 blocking mesa even though it appears to want the modular X files.

Someone needs to fix the /profiles/package.mask and mesa-6.4.2-r2

Read the fine migration guide, thanks.
