The LiveCD kernel doesn't include the ieee1364 (Firewire) driver. That and the SBP2 driver 
(which depends on Firewire) are necessary for reading the CD on some Sony VAIO laptops (i.e., the 
latest in the R505 series) since the CD is connected into the Firewire bus.

ok, this is added on latest experimental www.gentoo.org/~livewire
its in the initrd , so even firewire cdroms,etc should work
