Is there any way you can include the Xi Graphics Summit 2.x Platinum Demo and 
XSVC AGP driver package into Gentoo as an alternative driver package to the 
normal XFree86 DRI/GLX package for users? I have tested the Summit 2.2 and 
XSVC packages on various Linux distributions and it is a very stable and 
reliable driver even in it's Demo version. It is very stable with X-Windows 
and has very fast and professional level OpenGL support on a huge variety of 
graphics cards which are listed at XiG's website at http://www.xig.com. They 
have several versions of Summit avaliable for Laptop, Desktop, and Workstation 
level computers. Currently I operate an ATI Radeon 8500 64mb video card in my 
Desktop and this driver is far more stable than the FireGL/Radeon set provided 
by ATi for XFree86 DRI/GLX.

The XiG driver set also includes a Control Panel applet for users to configure 
settings such as Anti-Aliasing, 16-bit texture support, Digital Overlay, 
Accumulation Buffer, Vertical Sync, etc. This would be very handy for gamers 
who want high level OpenGL support and want the ability to control the 
settings such as their Windows counterparts.

I have xfree now and want to experiment.  Is it easy to switch between xfree and xig's?

Not yet, assigning this to me as I've used Summit before and have some understanding of opengl-config and what might be involved.

Please test bug 63646 , the ebuilds are provided there.
