the longer variants, x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-{gcc,g++}{32,64} isn't working ether. -- all gcc releted commands not ending in 32 or 64 is working.

Those were installed by the old gcc-config.  Please delete them and instead use ${CHOST}-gcc or just 'gcc -m32' or 'gcc -m64'.
