Now getting the same error on my own system, also freshly rebuilt. Same version of GCC, VLC version is 0.8.4a-r1, it happens after loading VLC when I actually hit the play button. The same error is also reported by wine when trying to start at ALL (this includes running winecfg), and also by gmplayer when it tries to start. I have tried rebuilding nvidia drivers and switching opengl profiles.
