please add libusb as RDEPEND for all usbutils ebuilds, since it's a dynamically linked library needed by your application. [1]
 when installing from binary packages (think catalyst or an enterprise setup), only RDEPEND is checked and that one is missing in your case. [2]

not sure why you closed it since there are no RDEPENDs in any of the ebuilds. and read the second link from comment #1.
