Description Jan Sembera 2006-06-05 07:48:44 UTC
When I execute OpenOffice, no matter which application and no matter whether I specify file on the command line or I don't, during the process of starting (progress indicator in approximately half), OpenOffice displays 'OpenOffice document recovery', but either in some strange language or it's just gibberish, and when I click the only button on screen, it probably crashes, automagically resumes starting and return into this 'Document recovery' screen again. Screenshot will be attached to this bug. This problem occured some time ago with openoffice 2.0.0, and I believe it was when I set the LINGUAS variable to czech language, but I was unable to undo this ever since. I was trying to remove .ooo-2.0 directory, I even created another user account and tried to execute OOo there, but with same result.

I use binary build, I don't have enough disk space for successful compilation of OpenOffice. Openoffice was merged as follows.

[ebuild R ] app-office/openoffice-bin-2.0.2 -gnome +java 119,617 kB

Try to use another font for your user interface, this might help with the "not-readable"-problem

http://fis.bofh.cz/links/strace_oo.txt

This is where I put strace of my attempt to run openoffice. It doesn't tell me anything, but you could have better luck with it. What I noticed about it is that SIGSEGV. I also noticed that when I attempt to run oopadmin2, it also segfaults.

Another font in my interface... I can't start oopadmin2 or any other part of OOo, therefore I can't switch fonts in it. Or does OOo read fonts from GTK or Qt configuration?

Yes it does
Comment 5 Andreas Proschofsky (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-06-09 03:04:02 UTC
So did you try to change the font?
Comment 6 Jan Sembera 2006-06-13 18:01:04 UTC
Unfortunately, it didn't. No matter what font I choose in both Qt and GTK, ooffice still keeps crashing and showing nonsense (I used qtconfig and switch2 for this).
Comment 7 Andreas Proschofsky (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-07-11 04:50:42 UTC
Do you also get this with 2.0.3?
Comment 8 Jan Sembera 2006-07-12 07:56:35 UTC
When I upgraded X.org to modular version 7.0 (still on OOo 2.0.2), the message fixed itself (probably some font issue) and it was written correctly. It was not Document recovery as I first believed, but information about crash with checkbox whether OOo should be restarted or not. If I restarted it, it crashed again.

After upgrading to 2.0.3, OOo just ends during startup without any error screen and without any message on terminal.

Anything new here?
