NOTE: because this is a new install and X doesn't work cutting and pasting information is a little tedious. For example emerge --info is not included yet (but will be if necessary).

This is about a new install in the ~amd64 branch. Since it was completed a few days ago all the latest stuff is included like GCC 4.1.1. The problem is that 'X - configure' crashes and thus does not generate and xorg.conf file. I hesitate in experimenting with xorg.conf files from scratch; moreover, suddenly an 'atimisc' driver appears out of the blue and I have no idea whether this is the cause of the problem.

Please check the /var/log/Xorg.0.log file included for details.

I am also having this problem. When I run X -configure:
