Is there a way to cancel starting a daemon?

I'm having a little problem with ndiswrapper... I need to compile it with my new kernel, but there's a problem. Wireless internet is set to start automatically, but when ndiswrapper can't be loaded, starting gentoo hangs at the point where it says "Starting wlan0"... Is there any way for it to skip this?

I've had similar problems before with a laptop. The laptop is set to automatically start wired internet, but when it's not plugged in to the network it takes forever before Gentoo decides to stop trying.

It's just annoying, because now I have to go into Windows (ugh!) to download a Knoppix CD and burn that, just so I can chroot into Gentoo and tell it to not automatically start wireless.

Thanks

~Lex

Please, use forums.gentoo.org or IRC for such questions. Also, reading documentation is really useful. Bugzilla is not a support forum, bugzilla is for bugs.
