Description Alex Weiss 2006-05-28 09:25:09 UTC
Hi,

I'm running a system with a dvd-rom (hdc) and a dvd+rw (hdd) drive and have never had problems with udev until udev-087 release. Basically, what happens is that, for some reason or another, I can only access the dvd+rw drive using udev-087. This is likely related, I imagine, to error messages concerning %e that I get when shutting down the system. I have temporarily dealt with the problem by reverting back to udev-079-r1, but I would like to see a real fix.

Did you run etc-update or dispatch-conf after upgrading? If you did, you might also try to move /etc/udev out of the way and re-emerge udev to ensure that the configuration is sane.

Hi,

Yes, I did do that... I tried your suggestion, i.e., moving /etc/udev out of the way before emerging, but that did not work. However, telling etc-update not to replace the udev.conf and 50-udev.rules file seemed to do the trick. As such, it appears that these files (probably the latter) are the problems.
