Description Hanno Böck gentoo-dev 2006-05-24 04:29:19 UTC
He wants to join the work on jabber-stuff (servers, transports).
humpback said he'd like to mentor him, he already knows his work from bug reports.
Comment 1 Lars Strojny 2006-07-09 18:20:44 UTC
What's the current state in this issue?
Comment 2 Bryan Østergaard (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-07-22 08:35:12 UTC
Humpback, are you mentoring Lars? In that case we need the ebuild quiz + end of mentoring quiz when you're satisfied with the answers. Feel free to ping me on irc if there's anything unclear about the new-dev process.
Comment 3 Gustavo Felisberto (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-07-22 16:14:38 UTC
Lars: You still alive and kicking? Please send me your quizes.
Comment 4 Lars Strojny 2006-08-02 08:56:49 UTC
I sent it. And: is it possible to change the nickname to lars?
Comment 5 Lars Strojny 2006-08-23 07:40:56 UTC
As I read today und the developers mailinglist, the ruby-herd is searching for developers. If there were a bit more speed in this issue here, I can help out there as this is software I'm currently maintaining on BMG. It's not the best to keep competent developers away, who would be able to push things forward, because the recruiting mechanism are really slow.

What do developers do? They write software, fix bugs, help out their fellow developers. Or, do they whine and throw a tantrum when things don't go exactly their way?

Your latest comment is a perfect example of why you'd make a poor "developer" Instead of offering your help like others have, you decided use the request to take a shot at recruiters becuse we're slow to give you all those "needed" toys that makes you a developer, like a email address, maybe an IRC cloak.....

Drop the attitude or go away, nothing that happens in recruitment affects your ability to help the ruby herd, except your own attitude.

There is no need to feel offended. If you see my comment as an offense then I have to say sorry. And, just for the record, I think you forgot one point in your listing: developers also discuss about mechanisms. QA, testing, user-interaction and: organisation. And, just for the record, I think you forgot one point in your listing: developers also discuss about mechanisms. QA, testing, user-interaction and: organisation. In my case, I've got the promise, that in »the next few weeks« there will be some important change here. This was some days after report was opened. So I hope it is understandable that I have my doubts with the mechanisms.

I will review your quizes and set you up when you have reviewed your quizes with your mentor.

Thank you very much.
Comment 12 Hanno Böck gentoo-dev 2006-09-25 16:05:46 UTC
Hi, humpback, betelgeuse, can you ping me on irc? As humpback announced that he'll drop most of his maintainerships, I'm wondering if he still want's to mentor lars. I can jump in if required.

Beside that, as many jabber-packages are now without a maintainer, it'd probably help much to have lars on board.

I was in Spain for the last week so I couldn't respond to your pings on IRC. Sorry about that.

Lars: I am available for the most part during the weekends. Just ping me when you have the time to review the ebuild quiz.

Lars needs to resend the quiz based on the feedback I gave before I can accept the ebuild quiz. You should also start working on the eom quiz. After both quizes are sent to recruiters@gentoo.org we will do an another review session.

I guess I should check the list of open recruiters bugs more often. If you are still interested in join please check with me. I think I had some concerns about your answers at that time but as quite while has passed, your skills shouldn't be an issue nowadays. Sorry about letting this rot without checking up.

I'm no longer interested in becoming a Gentoo Developer. Sorry and thanks for your effort. Feel free to close the bug.
