Bug 133729 – while installing the nvidia driver, it fails to create libGL.la

The summery pretty much says it all. I think it created a lot of problems, such as not being able to use the nvidia driver, itself - X wont start after configuring it to work with the nvidia driver. by the way, could this libGL.la thing be the problem? I would love to know. I'll stick to the bug itself though.
the error messege after compiling is:
!!! Error: Failed to create //usr/lib/libGL.la
I know it doesn't help much but I don't know which of the other output should I put in. here's some other information:

We've migrated to newer nvidia driver packages, in the process this bug was fixed and never marked as such.
