I apologize for not having better documentation- the harddrive seized a week after installing on this machine.

If I recall correctly, installing stage 3 dynamically from the liveCD with the gui installer has issues when you try to include KDE as well. sone of the packages calls for poppler, which attempts to grab an outdated version- the isntall crashes when it can't find the outdated version of poppler.  I suppose that an emerge sync between the base install and the extra packages might fix it, although it could introduce other issues.
