Currently the latest version of Basket in portage is 0.5.0. The latest Alpha of basket is 0.6.0 Alpha 2b.

I thought alpha versions were allowed

    etc...

And what of CVS builds?

Is there any reason that it can't be in portage as unstable or even Hard Masked if it has serious problems?

Builds fine for me.

According to the Developer, the need for an arts patch is no longer needed
  reference:
    http://basket.kde.org/development.php   --then search "Arts"

Unfortunately, testing without arts is not possible for me, so someone without arts could test it.

If it works without arts installed, then remove the 'arts' use flag (I don't know how)
