I am using Lyx 1.4.1 and the german umlaute (ö, ü. ä, ß, etc.) are not displayed correctly in the menus. My System Locale is de_DE.utf8. They look like UTF-8 Characters which are displayed in an ISO-Environment (Ã,Ã,ö). Strangly lyx -dbg gui outputs: -- Setting debug level to gui Debugging `gui' (GUI handling) Successfully installed Qt translations for locale de_DE.utf8 -- Portage 2.0.54-r2 (default-linux/amd64/2006.0, gcc-3.4.5, glibc-2.3.6-r3, 2.6.16-gentoo-r7 x86_64) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.16-gentoo-r7 x86_64 AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3200+ Gentoo Base System version 1.6.14 dev-lang/python: 2.4.2 dev-python/pycrypto: [Not Present] dev-util/ccache: [Not Present] dev-util/confcache: [Not Present] sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.17 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.59-r7 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r1 sys-devel/binutils: 2.16.1 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.22 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.11-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=athlon64 -O2 -pipe" CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.5/env /usr/kde/3.5/share/config /usr/kde/3.5/shutdown /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/X11/xkb /usr/share/config /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/eselect/compiler /etc/gconf /etc/splash /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-march=athlon64 -O2 -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoconfig distlocks sandbox sfperms strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://distfiles.gentoo.org http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/gentoo" LANG="de_DE.utf8" LC_ALL="de_DE.utf8" LINGUAS="de" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="amd64 X aalib alsa apache2 audiofile avi bash-completion berkdb bitmap-fonts bzip2 cdb cddb cdr cli crypt cups curl directfb dri dvd dvdr eds emboss encode exif expat fam ffmpeg flac foomaticdb fortran gdbm gif glut gmp gpm gstreamer gtk2 hal idn imagemagick imlib ipod ipv6 isdnlog jpeg kde lcms ldap libcaca libwww lzw lzw-tiff mad mhash mng mp3 mpeg musicbrainz mysql nas ncurses nls nptl ogg oggvorbis openal opengl pam pcre pdflib perl php png pppd python qt quicktime readline reflection ruby sdl session spell spl ssl symlink tcpd tetex tiff truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts udev unicode usb userlocales vorbis wmf xine xml xml2 xorg xpm xv xvid zlib video_cards_nv video_cards_nvidia input_devices_mouse input_devices_keyboard linguas_de userland_GNU kernel_linux elibc_glibc" Unset: ASFLAGS, CTARGET, INSTALL_MASK, LDFLAGS, PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS, PORTAGE_RSYNC_OPTS, PORTDIR_OVERLAY lyx --version ----------------------------- LyX 1.4.1 of Tue, Apr 11, 2006 Built on May 16 2006, 12:22:52 Configuration Host type: x86_64-pc-linux-gnu Special build flags: compression aiksaurus pch use-aspell use-ispell C Compiler: x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-gcc C Compiler LyX flags: C Compiler flags: -march=athlon64 -O2 -pipe -fno-stack-protector -fno-stack-protector-all C++ Compiler: g++ (3.4.5) C++ Compiler LyX flags: -fno-exceptions C++ Compiler flags: -march=athlon64 -O2 -pipe -fno-stack-protector -fno-stack-protector-all Linker flags: Linker user flags: Qt Frontend: Qt version: 3.3.4 Packaging: posix LyX binary dir: /usr/bin LyX files dir: /usr/share/lyx This is a known issue. I have attached the URL for the upstream bug. Please note that the problem was solved when I upated to glibc-2.4-r3 and added proper "de_DE.UTF-8/UTF-8" to /etc/locales.build (The Howto on gentoo wiki was wrong;)) So I reckon this could be a user problem and not an upstream-bug after all. Florian I guess your are right. Someone at the upstream bug also mentioned that it could be caused by lack of proper locale, but the bug is apparently still their in the GTK frontend. But since we don't support the GTK frontend until it is feature complete, i'll close this bug. Thanks for letting us know that it was fixed! :) |
