Description Attila Tóth 2006-05-08 15:17:15 UTC
Recent change in php eclasses curses users running php scripts using mbstring extension without having "unicode" use flag enabled.
Mbstring extension should not depend on "unicode". The previous conception, related to "nls" use flag can be also criticized.
Either it should be enabled by default, or should depend on a use flag different from utf8 or unicode.

And may be these kind of changes could be accompanied by a smart warning during merging the package, to alert m*f* users.

This is the second time in a month I should tweak an eclass because of unicode/utf-8 related changes to restore a screwed up mysql instance or php...

Dwokfur

No need for a separate bug for your rants; we read the comments on the other bug as well.
