I'm just building a fresh 1.4_rc2 now, 1st pass of bootstrap built binutils
successfully

1041835634:  >>> emerge (4 of 6) sys-devel/binutils-2.13.90.0.16 to /
1041838529:  ::: completed emerge (4 of 6)
sys-devel/binutils-2.13.90.0.16 to /

will advise if 2nd build of binutils (still during bootstrap) fails.
which build pass was it (1st/2nd)? [check <chroot>/var/log/emerge.log]
Comment 2 Todd Sunderlin (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-01-06 08:49:11 UTC
Its been tested, fixed, and is working with no problems now.
