Description Sumit Khanna 2006-05-07 09:00:32 UTC
I recently upgraded to azuresu-bin 2.4.0.2 and gtk 2.8.17 (as well as the whole gnome 2.14 upgrade). Now whenever there is an error box that popups on the bottom right (unclean shutdown, etc), clicking "hide" on the box won't make it go away.

Please try:

echo '=dev-java/swt-3.2_rc2' >>/etc/portage/package.mask

... them re-emerge swt and report the results :-)
Comment 6 Ivan Yosifov 2006-05-15 04:07:35 UTC
Downgraded to 3.2_pre1, same issue.
Comment 7 Sumit Khanna 2006-05-15 16:34:28 UTC
I had swt-3.2_rc2 installed on my original bug report.
Comment 8 Triffid Hunter 2006-05-16 06:07:25 UTC
re-emerge eh.. I don't have swt installed at all. would installing it help?
Comment 9 Tersius 2006-05-17 00:08:24 UTC
gtk+-2.8.16 works fine, problem only starts with gtk+-2.8.17
Comment 10 Kevin Bowling 2006-05-29 22:46:17 UTC
I too have this annoyance. GTK+ 2.8.16 was taken out of portage so I have to go back to 2.8.12 now. 2.8.18 had no fix.
Comment 11 Jory A. Pratt 2006-06-02 19:28:33 UTC
this has already been fixed in upstream CVS just give them time to put the final touches on it and should roll out soon.
Comment 12 Doug Goldstein (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-06-12 22:03:58 UTC
Anyone actually get an error msg when you start up Azureus saying it can't find file the file ''. I get that just from starting up Azureus... even "azureus" from command line. It's quite annoying.. Then I'm hit by this bug..
Comment 13 Ivan Yosifov 2006-06-13 03:54:20 UTC

> Anyone actually get an error msg when you start up Azureus saying it can't find

I do. This seems to be a bug in the launcher script, who's last line is:

java -cp $(java-config -p systray4j,azureus-bin 2>/dev/null) -Djava.library.path="${AZDIR}" org.gudy.azureus2.ui.swt.Main "$1"

If I remove the "$1" at the end I don't get the error.

Yea but if you do that, you won't be able to give azureus a command line arg. No matter how many times you run azureus, it will always sent the torrent you specify as an argument to the same process/window, so it's very helpful when you're downloading a lot of torrents from a website. Try this instead:

if [ "$1" != "" ]; then
  java -cp $(java-config -p systray4j,azureus-bin 2>/dev/null) -Djava.library.path="${AZDIR}" org.gudy.azureus2.ui.swt.Main "$1"
else
  java -cp $(java-config -p systray4j,azureus-bin 2>/dev/null) -Djava.library.path="${AZDIR}" org.gudy.azureus2.ui.swt.Main
fi

This is off-topic and probably known already but for the record:

As reported in bug #126822 and the forums [1] it's easiest to change the last line in the startup script from

java -cp $(java-config -p systray4j,azureus-bin 2>/dev/null) -Djava.library.path="${AZDIR}" org.gudy.azureus2.ui.swt.Main "$1"

to

java -cp $(java-config -p systray4j,azureus-bin 2>/dev/null) -Djava.library.path="${AZDIR}" org.gudy.azureus2.ui.swt.Main $@

Notice that the "$1" expression changed to `$@' which means that all arguments passed to the startup script get passed to the real Azureus program. This way no error occurs when the argument list is empty.

This is really anoying. Is there a work around now? Like disabling it some where in the configuration of azureus?
Comment 17 Sumit Khanna 2006-07-16 18:27:23 UTC
The workaround is to open the "About" dialog..then you can click hide on the messages.

Fixed in azureus-2.4.0.2-r1. Unable to fix -bin version as it needs patch for the source. Emerge that one instead. Using source pays off :)

Nice, thanks!! I knew about boxes had to be useful for something :)

Well, yeah, unless you actually want those. ;)

Thanks very much, Caster. I'm off to try the source now.

Well, a working azureus-bin sure beats a non-working azureus, even if I have to deal with GTK popups. I'm having this problem:

I unmerged the bin package and emerged the source and it works fine now (the only reason I used the bin package in the past was due to the source not working on amd64). Is there any need to still have the bin package? If not, maybe it should be masked to force people to migrate to the src.
Comment 23 Petteri Räty (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-08-13 05:45:51 UTC
package.masked ~arch version of azureus.
Comment 24 Sybren Harmsma 2006-08-13 07:26:04 UTC
What about users who don't WANT to move from bin to src? it requires nearly 20 new packages to compile java, alltogether 67 MB downloads. Is it really necessary to have all those packages installed just for a popup problem for which an easy workaround is available?

And then, if azureus-bin would work properly with the next gtk, would the package be unmasked again?

Basically, the bin package is there for people who want to use bin, and the src package is for people who want to use src. FORCING people to change is not a good idea. People who don't like the workaround to the popup problem will move to src by themselves if they get fed up with bin, no need to force.

The -bin package is a legacy package. There is no developer interested in maintaining a binary version and it is our policy to compile from sources. The -bin version should never have been bumped to 2.4.0.2 but eradicator did it without approval from the java people. Stable users will not have any trouble switching because I will add a package move that will make the switch very painless.

I agree with this (and I should get an extra HDD).
Furthermore, the popup hide buttons work fine here with azureus-bin and gtk+-2.10.1.

I wouldn't mind moving to net-p2p/azureus if it worked. But it has lots more annoyances than net-p2p/azureus-bin. Today I spent the whole day to get it work. After hour of fiddling, it turned out that the swt exception I get was because I categorize my torrents and I had to remove my .azureus/categories.config file. But with a few dozens of torrents running, this is unacceptable for me.

I feel that this sudden masking is mis-treating of the ~arch gentoo users. You admit that there was a misunderstanding even within the portage maintainers (eradicator vs java people). So how are the ~arch users expected to be aware of all the gentoo portage policies?

I believe that there should be something like a -r1 package that warns of the policy you mention and that it will soon be enforced.

The popup issue has been resolved in Azureus 2.5.0.0, which has been released yesterday (21 august 2006).

ebuild, anyone?
Comment 29 Andrew Dorney 2006-08-22 07:46:33 UTC
The "Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: memmove" error has been fixed for the source version of Azureus (which does not have this popup issue). As nasty as it was following the Java 1.5 upgrade guide, I've got the problem resolved by going that route.

http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=135835 -- bug for Azureus not starting on amd64
http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/java/java-upgrade.xml -- guide for installing Java 1.5

I realize that this doesn't change the main issue for some of you. However, it does work, and those who wish to do so may.

azureus-bin removed from the tree with a package move to net-p2p/azureus.
