If you need support, post the topmost build error, NOT this status message. (In reply to comment #3) The bug forums seem a little strange. I couldn't post the error and the emerge --info in the same window. I don't see how this is a sparc bug. I just tried exactly what the reporter is attempting, and everything looks good. That is, the build directory /var/tmp/portage/gcc-3.4.6-r1/work/gcc-3.4.6 looks like it should, patches all apply, and configure is there and does do a configure. (Indeed, this is the compiler I am using on sparc.) I note, however, that I am using a system that emerge --info describes as this: Portage 2.1_pre10-r2 (default-linux/sparc/sparc64/2006.0, gcc-3.4.6, glibc-2.3.6-r3, 2.6.15-gentoo-r4-SB1000 sparc64) whereas the reporter is using "Portage 2203-svn", and I further note that this is the second time today I have seen a weird report associated with 2203-svn. Sorry for the non-resolution; I'm blind today, I guess, and just don't see it. (In reply to comment #5) I have about 15 machines (servers) running Gentoo and my Ultra 60 is the only one having problems related to this. I can't conclude that this is a sparc problem, I guess I was being too specific when posting since this is the only sparc machine I have. Sorry about that. I would like some help, however, in trying to figure out what is going on. Here's the original thread and hence why I am submitting a bug. http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-458741.html (In reply to comment #5) > I don't see how this is a sparc bug. I just tried exactly what the reporter is > attempting, and everything looks good. Well, sorry if this got misassigned, don't have any sparc to try. :) > whereas the reporter is using "Portage 2203-svn", and I further note that this > is the second time today I have seen a weird report associated with 2203-svn. Hmmm true, I've seen one or two as well. it's not unpacking properly run `rm -rf /var/tmp/portage` and then try to `emerge gcc` if that fails, downgrade to a supported version of portage (like 2.1_pre10) and try again (In reply to comment #8) > it's not unpacking properly > > run `rm -rf /var/tmp/portage` and then try to `emerge gcc` > > if that fails, downgrade to a supported version of portage (like 2.1_pre10) and > try again > jghobrial, did this work for you? It looks to me to be about the only possible cause of your specific symptom. (In reply to comment #9) Sorry, it takes forever to fail: * Updating boehm-gc/configure ...
