I know that there was a bug with bad menu labels encoding.
There is very similar - with file/directory names - when you try to navigate into folder with polish sings (iso-8859-2 encodeing) you got:

(<unknown>:10281): Pango-WARNING **: Invalid UTF-8 string passed to pango_layout_set_text()

and there are shown only this letters from the name, witch are before first polish sing

(with +unicode I've got the same warning)
