i have an scsi cd-rom writer
so i wanted to boot gentoo livecd on it but the scripts are searching for an ide cdrom drive because they search at hd* and they don't search at scd0

Try booting with 'doscsi'.

Yeah... you need to boot with "gentoo doscsi" like the Handbook says, as well as the boot prompt message.

(i didn't re-read the handbook because i did not use it for installation)
