I am also having this problem on a 64bit Intel E64T system both have the hardened kernel configuration.

Upgrading gcc doesn't not help much unless you actually switch to the newly installed version...

How can I switch to it when it won't compile clever cloggs?

Ok ignore me.

but why doesn't --update automatically adjust this?
