I can't install Gentoo GNU/Linux with 2006.0 Installer LiveCD, tried both GTK installer and installer-dialog application (after 'gentoo nox' call during boot). In both cases it stop/halt , without visible errors, after I do all configuration/selection and press last <install> or <finish> button I can't remember correct label. Then it prints "Starting installation" I remember two scales at the bottom of the GTK installer that stay at 0% all the time (I have waited about half an hour). No sound, that is expected, from DVD burner where install media cd is inserted. It is not spinning. Medium is OK as I previously successfully did an installation on Compaq Armada 1750 notebook. /var/log/install.log have only one line telling that root password is set or changed successfully. As I accepted recommended partition layout I have expected to see new layout applied but it (fdisk /dev/hda) gives only 'old' setup: /dev/hda1 <- win partition unallocated space, instead /dev/hda1 win ---- /dev/hda2 /boot 100MB /dev/hda3 swap 392MB /dev/hda4 / 14GB ---- so it is not reaching partitioning as I understand? This machine has 'problematic' disk controller (drive wasn't visible with old RedHat 7.0 install cd I needed to manually load appropriate controller module) but I suppose as Gentoo read and recommended partition setup, drive is visible under Gentoo? Install script found sound, video, network and other cards correctly and loaded appropriate modules etc. Can you guide me how to find problem? How to make install.log more verbose? Do you need hardware specs for this x86 pentiumII (mendocino) machine in detail? lspci v ? lsmod? Thanks. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 125751 *** Andrew: Thanks man, I suspected as I didn't touch 'network' section (but with intention to do an networkless install)... FAST :) |
