Description Jared H. Hudson (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2002-12-28 20:51:54 UTC
app-editors/vim and app-editors/emacs should be added to the GRP and possibly to
the LiveCD. Since Gentoo required editing many files to get a system up and
running (/etc/hosts, /etc/fstab, /etc/make.conf, ect) then a user not being able
to use their choice editor is very frustrating.

I would suggest joe and vile first, as joe offers jmacs, jstar and jpico too, while vile is smaller than vim IIRC. They're probably close enough for most people.

I concur with MJR on this, could this please be done before 1.4 final comes out ? Having to use nano on the livecds during the early stages before one can get vim merged is a major pain.

i agree with Robin Johnson. nano is a pain.

but i have another issue:
what about screen on the livecds?
i think it wasnt on the last cds but i often slap in the cd, setup passwd and ssh so i can start install and then do a remote install or something. or just leave the machine alone...
screen is _very_ helpful there

screen, vile, joe will appear on CD1 of 1.4 maintenance release 1 for x86.

I apologise for this bugspam, but I wish to close this product, so I need to
move all the bugs.
