Since i only have mozilla-firefox-bin package installed, upgrading mplayerplug-in  also tries to emerge mozilla.

Fix is trivial... add "www-client/mozilla-firefox-bin" to package dependency list, and while at it.. Why not  also ">=www-client/mozilla-bin-1.6"?

No, it wouldn't compile at all. Set USE="gecko-sdk" if you don't want to compile mozilla/firefox.
