attached kernel-config has firewire enabled, IrDA, bluetooth, and others...
sometime in the future I'm going to want to put tools for all of these on the
livecds, it's best to give people as many options as possible.  Firewire's
important though --- my Sony Vaio PCG-C1MW has a Firewire CDRW as its only
removable disk drive...

I'm guessing this config is now years out of date
