Description Jose daLuz 2006-03-29 18:57:01 UTC
Updating gaim from 2.0.0_beta2-r2 to 2.0.0_beta3 I get this error:

checking for GTK+ - version >= 2.0.0... no
*** Could not run GTK+ test program, checking why...
*** The test program failed to compile or link. See the file config.log for the
*** exact error that occurred. This usually means GTK+ is incorrectly installed.
configure: error:
*** GTK+ 2.0 is required to build Gaim; please make sure you have the GTK+
*** development headers installed. The latest version of GTK+ is
*** always available at http://www.gtk.org/.

!!! ERROR: net-im/gaim-2.0.0_beta3 failed.

I got this error both with and without confcache. I will attach the config.log.

Oh yes, the gtk+ version installed is 2.8.16.
Comment 3 Jose daLuz 2006-03-29 19:21:58 UTC
Gaim was emerged with a number of other updates including dev-libs/expat from 1.95.8 to 2.0.0 -- which updated /usr/lib64/libexpat.so.0 to /usr/lib64/libexpat.so.1, which broke many things. I started to do a revdep-rebuild, but due to not having time to rebuild the number of packages affected by this update I downgraded expat back to 1.95.8 and now gaim builds ok. Perhaps you should leave this open a while so others who run into this will know why their gaim build is not working.

break alot more then just gaim, xchat and openbox along with dbus are all still busted even after a recompile due to abi changes.
Comment 5 Jory A. Pratt 2006-03-29 22:30:53 UTC
As long as revdep-rebuild is run like ebuild tells ya, everything is fine.
