Description Dave Smith (lanalyst) 2002-12-27 04:04:16 UTC
This is more a fyi/documentation update than an actual bug...

After updating to alsa-driver-0.9.0_rc6, the cmpci module would not load. It
complained about 'invalid option snd_major=116' when initializing. All other
alsa modules reported errors loading.. no log available

Symptoms are no sound at all after update.

The 'alsa howto' document directs to insert the following options line in
/etc/modules.d/alsa:
options snd snd_major=116 snd_cards_limit=1

snd_major=116 is no longer valid and the module will not load with it. Also,
snd_cards_limit should now be cards_limit according to the current
/etc/modules.d/alsa.. I'm not sure is snd_cards_limit is accepted as depreciated
syntax.

Solution:
Comment/remove the options snd snd_major=116 snd_cards_limit=1 in
/etc/modules.d/alsa and uncomment options snd cards_limit=1

Note:
Because this file is more customized than most, I think many users (like me)
will just keep the original file during etc-update not realizing the changes to
the changes to the module. Perhaps a comment indicating the change in
alsa-modules.conf-rc that will display on the diff would be helpful...

Thanks,
Dave
