I have udev 079-r1, with linux kernel 2.6.15-gentoo-r1 and the ide-cd module is not loaded automatically (I also have coldplug and hotplug started at boot time).

This showed up recently after a system update and kernel update, since the /dev/hdc and /dev/hdd (the DVD reader and CD writers) didn't show up...

Then put the ide-cd module in your modules.autoload file, as there's nothing
that hotplug or udev can do to detect that this module needs to be loaded, sorry.

it used to work before, I mean before udev...  is this a known issue about udev?
