The tin folks have released a new version (1.8.1) in their stable branch on Feb. 15th. According to the CHANGES document (ftp://ftp.tin.org/pub/news/clients/tin/v1.8/CHANGES), a potential buffer overflow has been fixed, so upgrading might be not so bad an idea.
