Description Brian Litzinger 2006-02-23 18:01:39 UTC
the network startup hangs (or at least pauses) a good deal when an dhcp client is started on an ethernet port with no physical connection.

I think it would be desirable to use 'mii-tool' if available. during network startup to peek at the ethernet port to determine if the physical layer is present.

If the physical layer is present go ahead and run a dhcp client, otherwise don't.

I apologize for not writing this myself, but the learning curve for the network startup code looked too steep.

sorry about that. while searching the bug database I search on mii-tool instead of mii-diag.
